This project coordinated by Ann Saxton (Tel: 01295 680645)
Teachers/School Links - This has proved to be a very difficult project, on Ann Saxton's last trip to Kaduna, she ran a workshop for representatives from 9 schools, concentrating on learning language through play. This proved to be very successful.
Teachers visit - after many months of effort we finally managed to get Visa for Mrs. Agnes Awogbami Principle of St. Michael's Primary school and Mrs. Rahila Malam teacher at All Soul's Primary School. They visited Coventry diocese in September 2009 staying with Ann and Jim Saxton for three weeks. During their visit they spent time in Primary schools in Kineton, Shipston on Stour, Brailes and also Finham Pre School.
They worshipped at St. Peter's Kineton and were active memebrs of the Monday Home Group. Also during their stay Jim trained them in IT skills and this has proved excellent since Agnes who bought a PC whilst in UK has been in email contact with Ann Saxton since her return to Kaduna.
Since their return to Kaduna they have run two workshops with techers from various schools and have imparted teaching ideas learnt on their visit.
On their return to Kaduna they ran a series of workshops with the same school representatioves who attended the Ann Saxton workshop, this covered an agreed set of criteria when Agnes and Rahila came to Coventry diocese. These workshops have all been completed. It is good to report that many ideas from schools in coventry diocese are now being used in Kaduna diocese.
School Links - An attempt was made in 2011 to link Brailes primary and St. Michael's Primary school Kaduna, unfortunately Brailes never followed this through. However, we are please to announce that a link has now been established between Kineton Primary School and St. Michael's Primary School. Ann Saxton who is in regular contact with Mrs. Agnes Awogbami, who in turn has been keen to estblish the link, has IT skills and has computers in her school. Ann Saxton has launched the links by meeting Year 1 students at Kineton Primary. Details of link areas follows:
Kineton - Deputy Head at Kineton Mrs. Jenny Mitchell-Hilton and initially Year 1 students.
St. Michael's Head Teacher Mrs. Agnes Awogbami and a similar class from her school.
Project to extend as children progress through school.
School Books - Obtaining good quality second hand books for schools and transporting them to Kaduna. This is in two sections:
Primary Schools - This was the mission project for St. Martin-in-the-Fields church in Finham, Coventry. In total over 12,000 books have been successfully recieved in Kaduna. Unfortunately, this has now ceased due to lossing two large consignments in the docks, coupled with TWAM no longer sending containers to Nigeria.
We like to thank all those churches that have supplied books in the past and for TWAM in helping us get books to Kaduna. We can't express the delight that teachers and children who have the opportunity to read story books for the first time. We will update if this situation changes.
